Redesigned Epoxy And Wood Console Table - Poker Card Theme 29” Tall X 53” X 13.5.
I redesigned / refinished this table by taking a plain wood console table, repainted it in ‘midnight sky’ and red then distressed it to show the red. For the table skirt, I made the ornate details using epoxy and a silicone mold. I positioned the epoxy pieces then painted in red and midnight sky then, once again distressed them and finished them off by applying art alchemy white gold to make them come alive. Legs, skirt, and tabletop edges were sealed with polycrylic. For the edge of the table top, I painted it red, midnight sky, and gold - again distressing to show a bit of all the colors and finished it off with a little of the white gold from art alchemy. Finally, for the top of the table, I painted it a blend of red and midnight sky. Placed extra large plastic coated playing cards on top then coated with 2 layers of epoxy. I sanded the epoxy from 220 grit to 3000 grit with dry sand paper then again with 3000, 5000, and 7000 grit wet sand. After sanding and cleaning, I buffed/polished with 3m cutting and polishing compounds. This table is far from perfect-there are some dips around the edges where the epoxy never leveled out completely and the polishing did not come quite as clear as it would have been with a straight pour-however, the sanding and polishing gives it a much more professional finished feel. It is as slick/smooth as glass. You could slide almost anything across it and it would easily glide to the other side (although I do not recommend sliding anything heavy or sharp because it would lead to scratches - I am only letting you know just how smooth the top is). Since it is hand painted and hand cleared, there will be imperfections - as is the case with anything handcrafted/hand painted. If you are looking for absolute perfection, this is not the piece for you but if you are looking for a very unique one of a kind conversation piece that was designed, painted, and epoxied by a real live person instead of a factory then this piece will make you happy for many many years. I spent approximately 100 hours refinishing it. And, actually, underneath that top layer of cards is an entirely different design with 2 more coats of epoxy. I was never satisfied with that design so I redid it by painting over it, applying more cards and more epoxy. There is approximately 1 gallon of epoxy that was used on this table and it is quite heavy for it’s size. Measurements are approximately 53.5-54” long, 29” tall x 13.5” deep. It would be very cool in a game room, a den, a man cave, or a study but could also be used in just about any room that has a game, poker, or Las Vegas theme. It would also be great as an entry table in a foyer or a sofa table. It could even be used in a dining room as a small buffet style serving table.
