Here's the
Extremely Rare
1965 Krewe of Rex (HAS) Gold Aluminum Mardi Gras Doubloon (Partially Beaded and Double Cracked Die Obverse Variety)
.
The doubloon measures 39 mm or 1 1/2" in diameter and is in
Excellent Condition.
Payment due within 48 hours of purchase.
Note:  The obverse features the Rex Logo.  The reverse features a Young Boy and Girl Reading an Open Book and reads "ONCE UPON A RHYME...OLD RHYMES FOR CHILDREN OF YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW...PRO BONO PUBLICO...NEW ORLEANS, 1965."  This doubloon was designed by H. Alvin Sharpe, the Creator of the Mardi Gras Doubloon, and bears his familiar 'HAS' initials.  The Doubloon Guides show only two color varieties of this 1965 Rex Gold Aluminum doubloon:  Light and Dark Gold; however this doubloon is Partially Beaded, with 8 beads near the perimeter from above the "G" in "King" to above the "A" in "Carnival," and also has two Cracked Die Marks, one from the left tip of Rex' Bust to the top of the "O" in "Monarch" and the second one from the lower tip of Rex' Bust to the middle of the letter "M" in "Merriment."  This Doubloon is not listed in any of the Doubloon Guides, but the two 1965 Light and Dark Gold Varieties are listed at .00 each.
